PRACTICE

Matt Helling’s journey into mental health care has always been rooted in one core belief: healing happens when people feel truly heard.

Matt began his career with a Master of Social Work from the University of St. Thomas in 1999. He worked as a social worker and group therapist with Allina Health in Cambridge. Over the years, he’s served individuals and families in many different roles, including time spent as a Christian counselor, where he learned the importance of meeting people where they are, with care and empathy.

Later, Matt expanded his clinical skills by becoming a psychiatric nurse at Abbott Northwestern, gaining experience supporting patients through acute mental health challenges. His desire to deepen his practice led him back to school, and in 2021, he earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Minnesota, becoming a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Today, Matt blends both sides of his professional background—therapy and medication management—to provide holistic, thoughtful care. He believes strongly in the power of therapy and medication working together, and his approach is always patient-centered. Matt listens carefully, respects each person’s individual story, and follows their lead in developing their plan of care.

Whether you’re just beginning your journey or looking for a fresh perspective, Matt brings warmth, experience, and a steady presence to help navigate life’s challenges. He’s passionate about supporting others, and it shows in the way he practices—with compassion, attentiveness, and a genuine desire to help people feel whole again.
